Hydro Electric dams along the Clutha River have formed Lake Roxburgh and Lake Dunstan which now offer a range of recreational opportunities.
The clutha river cycling and walking track from Alexandra to clyde being most popular and takes approx 2-3 hrs one way.
Alexandra’s clutha river cruise to Doctors point which provides an in -depth insight into the mining history and makes for a great afternoons trip. Highly recommended.
The Otago Central Rail Trail takes you on a cycling or walking adventure through 150 km of some of New Zealand’s most memerable scenery and awe-inspiring gold mining history, accommodation is available on route ,but be sure to book in advance and allow at least 3 days to complete.
There is also the Alexandra Blossom Festival, held in September each year, Miss Wool awards,a week full of events, Arts and crafts, and also the Golden Shear’s Awards.
Other things to do includes Ranfurly’s Art deco,held in Febuary each year,The Art Deco Ball, a weekend filled with events,Gala stall’s,vintage cars and more.
